Massive Energy Saver

I wonder how much electricity the United States would save if Google changed their background to Black instead of white. Your monitor consumes less energy showing a black image then it does a white one. Google with possibly 4 to 5 million visits per day or more may save quite a bit of energy. Leave us a comment, let us know what you think.

NAS (Network Attached Storage)

Do you know what NAS is? Do you know how it is used, or who needs to use it? Is NAS the right device for you? Will it be the right solution for your business? Read on and learn all you can about NAS and network attached storage enclosure.

Network Attached Storage Enclosure is a single hard disk based device that connects to a network and uses file sharing. It usually connects to the network through an Ethernet cable, or a USB on your computer or router. With network attached storage, you get storage that is easier to set up, trouble shoot and access within the network. It is the central storage device for your network, that is not dependent on one computer.

Some of the advantages of the NAS are it is easier to share files within the network, availability of data could be increased and performance of NAS can be increased but that depends on the speed of the network. The disadvantages of NAS are, it can reach its limitations, if it is pre built and there is less user to user security for the files. Usually all files are accessible to all users of the network, unless you have more than one hard drive installed in the network attached storage enclosure.

One of the solutions for limitation is to have one built this way you can choose how many drives you want installed. The biggest advantage of having one built, is you can have as much gigabyte storage as you want plus it is expandable in the future. If you choose to buy one already built, depending on how much storage you need, it can be as little as $100. Of course, the more storage you need, the more it will cost.

Deciding to use a network attached storage device as your network storage is a good solution for small businesses. Your files will be better organized and much more accessible to whoever needs them. The NAS is not computer dependent and will be a good solution to store / backup your files.
